Abstract

This research examine the market reaction to the events of backdoor listing through a rights issue in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Based on the theory the market reaction will occur if an event has information content. The content of the information on an event can be measured from the abnormal return (AR) and trading volume activity (TVA). The measurement of AR and TV A are not performed by each sample of firms but those measured in the aggregate as average abnormal return (AAR) and the average trading volume activity (A TV A). This research uses event study approach by performing of observation and recording of AAR and A TV A for 1 O days before the event-day, at the event-day and 60 days after the event-day. The result research, based on the statistical test, finds that AAR and TVA are significant to events of backdoor listing through a rights issue in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014, so the event that becomes the object of this research was concluded has information content.
