Abstract

Understanding individual risk tolerance in making an investment decision is very important. The different characteristics of investors turns out to become different levels of risk tolerance for each person, hence considering investor's sociodemographic factors is very important in assessing risk tolerance. This study aims to see how risk tolerance of Indonesian investors is based on sociodemographic characteristics and also viewed from perception of the multidimensional of risk. This study was conducted on 407 Indonesian investors through an online survey. The results showed that several sociodemographic factors such as age, gender, marital status, education and income had an effect on financial risk tolerance, whereas ethnics do not have an effect on financial risk tolerance. The Data Envelopment Analysis method is used to measure the efficiency of investor risk behavior, where the investor is positioned as a Decision Making Unit (DMU). Data Envelopment Analysis will produce different Investor risk tolerance scores based on sociodemographic characteristics.
