Abstract

Maghfira Ramadhania. The Effect of Gender Diversity and Business Expertise in Board of Directors on the Firm Performance (Study on Non Financial Firms Listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange Period of 2013-2017). Faculty of Economics Universitas Negeri Jakarta. 2019. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of gender diversity and business expertise in board of directors on the firm performance of non-financial firms listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange period of 2013-2017. Independent variable used in this study is gender diversity proxied by the presence of women in board of directors, female CEO, and proportion of women and business expertise of women in board of directors. Dependent variable used in this study is firm performance proxied by Return on Asset (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), and Tobin’s Q. This study also used five control variables, these are firm size, leverage, liquidity, cash flow, and growth opportunities. The sampling method of this study is purposive sampling, with 264 firms that are listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange during 20132017 (1.223 observations). The research model is panel data analysis with random effect model and fixed effect model approach. The empirical results show that 1) gender diversity in board of directors does not have significant effect on firm performance, 2) business expertise of female directors does not have significant effect on firm performance, 3) firm size, liquidity, and growth opportunities do not have significant effect on ROA, 4) leverage has negative and significant effect on ROA, 5) casf flow has positive and significant effect on ROA, 6) firm size has significant effect on ROE, 7) leverage, liquidity, cash flow, and growth opportunities do not have significant effect on ROE, 8) liquidity has positive and significant effect on Tobin’s Q, 9) firm size, leverage, cash flow, and growth opportunities do not have significant effect on Tobin’s Q.
