Abstract

KHORINA, the Relationship between Self-Concept and Interpersonal Communication in Year 2009 Students of Commerce, Faculty of Economy, Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Undergraduate Thesis, Jakarta: Major of Economy and Administration, Educational Commerce Study Program Concentrating on, Faculty of Economy, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, July 2012. This research aims to get empirical data and valid and reliable fact about whether there is any relationship between self-concept and interpersonal communication in year 2009 students of Commerce, Faculty of Economy, Universitas Negeri Jakarta for 4 months, since March until June 2012. Research method used was survey method with correlation approach. Sampling method used was simple random sampling technique. The population in range is 65 students therefore the number of sample is 55 students. The instrument used was in lickert scale form to find the relationship between self-concept as X variable and interpersonal communication as Y variable. Before the instrument was used, validity test was done for both variables using correlation coefficient formula, with rcount > rtable then the reliability of every item was also tested using Alpha Cronbach formula. From 40 items of X variable, 25 items pronounced valid and the other 15 was not used. While for Y variable, from 40 items, 28 items were valid and the other 12 items were not used. Based on calculation the reliability of X variable is 0.99 and Y variable is 0.82. This result proofed that the instrument is valid and reliable. Linear regression model formula showed regression Ŷ = 56.22 + 0,542X. Analysis requirement test, which is galat regression prediction Y of X normality test with liliefors test showed Lcount = 0.084 with Ltable = 0.119 for n = 55 in level of significance 0.05 is 0.119 because Lcount < Ltable. Therefore, X and Y variable were normally distributed. Then, the result of regression linearity test showed that Fcount < Ftable, which was -148.45 < 1.91. It was concluded that the regression equation was linear. In hypothesis testing, significance test used was analysis of variance table (ANAVA). The result was Fcount > Ftable, which is 52.51 > 4.03 in 0.05 level of significance which means that the regression equation was significant. Regression significance testing showed Fcount > Ftable which was 53.51 > 4.03 in level of significance 0.05 which means that it is significant. Then, linear regression testing showed Fcount < Ftable which was -148.45 < 1.91 which means that it is linear. Hypothesis testing result using product moment correlation coefficient by Karl Pearson showed r = 0.473. Significance test of product moment correlation was done using t-test and the result showed tcount = 3.91 > ttable = 1.67 and therefore it can be said that there is a positive relationship between self-concept and interpersonal communication. Determination coefficient test showed that 22.36% interpersonal communication variance (Y variable) was determined by self-concept (X variable). Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a positive relationship between self-concept and interpersonal communication of year 2009 students of Commerce in Faculty of Economy, Universitas Negeri Jakarta.
