Abstract

THE EFFECT OF MACROECONOMIC FACTORS, MARKET SHARE EXPANSION STRATEGIES AND BANK’S CHARACTERISTICS TO THE PROFITABILITY OF PT. BANK PEMBANGUNAN DAERAH JAWA BARAT DAN BANTEN, TBK NOVI ANDRIANSYAH ABSTRACT This research is conducted to examine the effect of macroeconomic factors, as indicated by the rate of inflation and GDP growth, market share expansion strategy, measured by branch network expansion to increase customer deposit and loan/credit disbursement and bank’s characteristics, measured by LDR, CAR, NPL, BOPO, and size/assets, to Bank BJB’s profitability, measured by ROA (Return on Asset). The data used in this study were obtained from Bank BJB’s Financial Statements publications from 1st quarter of 2005 to 4th quarter of 2013, and Indonesian Banking Statistic Report publications. The data analysis technique used in this research is multiple linear regression analysis in which the data has been previously tested with the classical assumption test covering normality test, heteroscedasticity test, autocorrelation test and multicollinearity test. During the research showed that the data were normally distributed, then based on the results of normality test, heteroscedasticity test, autocorrelation test and multicollinearity test, no variables was found deviated from the classical assumptions. This suggests that the available data are qualified to use in the multiple linear regression models. The results of this study indicate that the variable rate of inflation and GDP growth showed no significant effect on the profitability (ROA) of Bank BJB. The same result also applies to the variables of market share, LDR, CAR, NPL, and assets/Size. In the other hand, BOPO variable has significant negative effect to bank BJB’s ROA. The determination coefficient value (adjusted R2 ) of 0.6798 means that the variation of the exogenous/ independent variables can explain the profitability (ROA) of 67.98 percent, while the rest is explained by other variables outside the model. Keywords : Macroeconomic Factors, Market Share, Bank’s Characteristics, Profitability, Multiple Linear Regression
