Abstract

PUSPITA JASMINE. The Influence of Foreign Ownership and Managerial Ownership on Research And Development Intensity with Corporatte Debt as Intervening Variable. Faculty of Economics, Universitas Negeri Jakarta. 2019. The intensity of research and development (R&D) is important for companies to produce innovation in order to be able to achieve competitive advantage. R&D activities are not only focused on copyrighting and publishing research results, but also focusing on producing and developing new products that can increase high productivity. R&D activities in developing countries focuses on creating and developing company products to match the country's markets. Foreign ownership, managerial ownership, and corporate debt have important roles as the sources of funds for R&D activities. Through the purposive sampling technique, 19 samples were selected during the 2014-2017 period with a total number of observations of 79. This study used multiple linear regression analysis and path analysis, then processed using SPSS. The results of this study indicate that foreign ownership does not have direct and indirect influence through corporate debt on R&D intensity. Meanwhile, managerial ownership does not have a direct influence on R&D intensity, however, managerial ownership has an indirect effect through corporate debt on R&D intensity. This is due to the company's R&D activities that are very dependent on the state of the company's debt, so that the managerial who owns the company's shares has a role in controlling the company's debt as the source of funds to finance R&D activities.
