Abstract

CLARA IRDYAN FEBRIANNY. The Effect of Profitability, Foreign Ownership, and Women on Board of Director on Corporate Philanthropy Value. Faculty of Economics, Universitas Negeri Jakarta. 2019. Policies related to funds spent to run corporate philanthropy can reflect corporate’s seriousness in contributing to social problems. This study analyzes the factors that give effect to the value of corporate philanthropy, such as profitability, foreign ownership, and gender diversity of board of director. All company listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during 2016–2018 are selected as research objects considering all sectors must carry out social and environmental responsibilities, including corporate philanthropy, which are presented in the corporate’s annual report. Through the purposive sampling method, 240 samples were obtained for 2016–2018 as year of observations which were processed by panel data regression analysis using Eviews10. Based on the results and conclusions of the study, profitability has a significant positive effect on corporate philanthropy. This shows that companies that have high profitability have more capacity to maintain and increase the value of corporate philanthropy. Then, women on board of director has a significant negative effect on corporate philanthropy. The negative effect can be obtained because the higher proportion of women is not supported when corporate philanthropy is new and not a priority. Thus, the tendency of women to avoid risk will reduce the corporate philanthropic funds. While foreign ownership has not been proven to have a significant effect on corporate philanthropy. This is due to the principle conflict between major and minor shareholders, which effectiveness of foreign ownership when the corporate considers the extent of corporate philanthropy is aligned with corporate’s objecctives can not be seen. Keywords: Corporate Philanthropy Value, Foreign Ownership, Profitability, Women on Board of Director
